Jerry Black

Featured Guest

Representative from the Ohio Chapter of the Mars Society

The Mars Society is an international, non-profit advocacy group founded in 1998 to promote the human exploration and settlement of Mars. We believe that humans could be on Mars within 10 years from the start of a serious project. To that end, we are:

  • Increasing public awareness and support
  • Encouraging more participation by the government and private enterprise
  • Sponsoring several key projects to prepare us to go to Mars
  • Check out our website and explore our four-month Mars expedition simulation underway in the Canadian Arctic (at FMARS) and our mission reports from our Mars Desert Research Station Utah. Examine the planned activities at our next annual convention (August 2007 in Los Angeles). Read about our plans for political action over the next two years.

Local chapters do much of the local outreach and education – see our list of chapters and chapter contacts. We seek opportunities in schools, libraries, clubs and other venues to talk about Mars, Mars exploration, and developments in commercial space.

Jerry Black is a staff engineer with over three decades at General Electric Aircraft Engines in Evendale, Ohio. He is a member of several space and science related organizations, including the Mars Society, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the National Space Society, the SETI Institute, and the Planetary Society. Jerry is a lifelong space program enthusiast who once worked on the Apollo project.
