9:00 PM Non-Linear Storytelling in Anime
(1 Hour - Rating: )
Baccano, Boogiepop Phantom, Millennium Actress, Haruhi Suzumiya, and When They Cry (Higurashi) are some recent popular examples. What ties a story together when events are not presented in consecutive order? Why do it that way?
10:00 PM Baccano!
(2 Hours - Rating: TV-MA)
Each of the stories in the series involves several unrelated plots intersecting and crossing each other as events spiral farther and farther out of control. Immortal alchemists, mafia operated speakeasies, and many other elements of pulp fiction mashed together. Review: Baccano!'s producers show a deft talent for managing all of the disparate threads by hinting at ultimate results while showing how things developed in that direction and how these threads are all gradually becoming entwined.

2:00 PM Goodbye Mr. Despair (Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei)
(2 Hours - Rating: )
Itoshiki Nozomu is the world's most negative person. To his way of thinking, there is no hope or meaning in this existence. Even the three kanji of his name become the two-kanji word zetsubou, "despair", when compressed. What an ironic twist of fate, then, that he becomes teacher to a class containing his precise opposite, the invincibly positive-minded Fuura Kafuka. And she's only one of a class full of extremists.
